We love VBS.

Here at First Baptist Church De Kalb, we believe that the Word of God has power to change lives and hearts for the better and is relevant to our world today. Vacation Bible School exists to give kids Pre-K 4 through 6th grade the opportunity to hear the Good News about Jesus Christ's life, death, & resurrection, and theHoly Spirit's amazing power for our lives today in a fun, engaging, and exciting way.

We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to minister to kids and families each year through Vacation Bible School!

Ready for your kids to join the fun?

This June, Kids will navigate the ultimate Alaskan adventure where northern lights glow over majestic mountains, racing rivers, and glistening glaciers. As kids trek the tundra, they’ll explore how easy it is to lose sight of what’s true in our wild world today. Pointing them toward Jesus, True North VBS shows them that he is a faithful friend we can always trust. He’s our True North!

FAQ
Q: What is VBS?
A: Vacation Bible school is a powerful summer ministry for kids PreK4-6th grade. VBS allows them to hear the Good News of Jesus, learn Bible stories, memorize Scripture, have fun with friends, play games, worship God & learn some new songs, hear from missionaries, and eat a few great sno-cones too, of course 🍧😉 We love your kids and look forward to this VBS week every year!

Q: What age group is VBS for? Can my 3 year old attend?
A:  VBS at FBC is for kids who have COMPLETED PreK 4 and up through kids that have completed 6th grade. A nursery is provided for volunteer's littles (under preK 4) only -  not for the public at this time. We'd love to host younger kids in the future for VBS but cannot currently handle it with our limited space for littles. :)

Q: Why is VBS only 4 days this year (M-T) and not 5 (M-F)?
A: Our VBS has been shortened from 5 to 4 days this year because of the Alaska Mission trip - since lots of our staff and regular Kids ministry volunteers will be flying out at the end of that same week! We should be back to a normal 5 day schedule next year when we are in the new building. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment the shortened schedule may cause, but we believe it is the best decision regarding the safety of your kids and effectiveness of VBS week this year.

Q: What will the last day of VBS be like? Will there be inflatables?
A: Definitely different than the past! Because of our current construction we will opt for more indoor games on Thursday rather than having inflatables outside. There will be an opportunity for parents to come enjoy part of the day with their kids! We will post more information regarding this the week of VBS. :)

Q: Are all volunteers background checked? Will my child be safe?
A: We will require all VBS volunteers to complete a background check with us for VBS. We have an amazing group of volunteers and staff to ensure your child is accounted for and safe at all times. Please feel free to reach out to our staff if you have any concerns or further questions in this area and we'd be happy to help!

I want to join the adventure, too!

We have an amazing VBS team that has as much fun as the kids! Are you interested in serving at VBS 2025 with FBC DK?  Click the link below for volunteer registration. Look though the options and read descriptions of what position is best for you!
Frequently asked questions for VBS Volunteers:

Q: What if I can't be there all 4 days to help?
A: No worries! You can mark your availability online to let us know. We'd love to have your help even if it's just for a day or two!

Q: What if I'm not a good teacher?
A: You don't have to teach kids to be a huge help! You can make snacks, walk a crew from one station to the next, referee games, count donations, decorate, listen to kids say memory verses, talk with missionaries, help run sound, and more.

Q: What time do I need to arrive and leave each day?
A: We'd love to have you arrive between 8:30-8:45am before the kids arrive at 9am.
VBS will run from 9am - 12pm Monday - Thursday.
You can leave when kids do around 12 -12:15pm!

Q: What job should I do if I'm a teen?
A: Any of them! Teens usually opt to be Elementary/PreK-4K Crew Leaders or Games leaders, but you can volunteer in any area!

Q: Do I need a background check?
A: Yes. if you are over 18 years old, you will need to pass a background check through FBC De Kalb to volunteer for VBS 2025. You will receive an email with an invitation to complete a background check within a few weeks of registering online. Please take a few moments to fill it out and get it completed as soon as you can!

Q: What will the last day of VBS (Thursday) be like for volunteers?
A: Good question! Because of our current construction we will opt for more indoor games on Thursday rather than having inflatables outside. There will be an opportunity for parents to come enjoy part of the day with their kids and we will need volunteers to help with large group activities in the sanctuary for that. After the kids leave at 12pm, volunteers will need to stay afterwards to clean up their areas, throw things away, and take down the decor, etc. With lots of extra hands, this doesn't take too long! Nothing has to be perfect, we just have to get things cleaned up and back to normal for weekend services.

We will post more information regarding Thursday's plan the week of VBS. :)
